Hi.
I’m looking for a cushion cut diamond halo pave ring. I’m looking into James Allen, but it’s a bit overwhelming. Clarity and color are very important to me. I’ve been reading on all your advice and I do not want to pay more than I have to for a beautiful center diamond. My budget is between $5k and $17k…maybe a bit more, but again, I want a center stone that will be beautiful to look at, but not cost more than it needs to. Help? Thanks!
For cushions, it’s great to keep the depth under 68% and the table shouldn’t exceed 70%. Cushions don’t have their own official cut scale given by GIA. Some companies use their own internal grades, but we don’t put any stock in those. We just use our own guidelines and strict parameters to find the best stones possible. Therefore, I wouldn’t pay attention to the cut grades you see at all.
Most cushions are modified, they have usually the ‘crushed-ice’ look (even though you may find some with the ‘chunky’ look as well). The other type of cushions are cushion brilliant diamonds that have the ‘chunky’ look. They are quite rare to find, therefore, if you want to focus on this type, you’d most probably get a smaller diamond or pay more for the same carat size. You usually can’t see the difference between cushion antique or modified cuts and neither of them is more brilliant than the other type (https://www.diamonds.pro/education/cushion-cut/).
May I ask what type of cushion cut you’re looking for?
I didn’t know the cushion cut came in types. I’m not looking for a rare cut.
If you are looking for an in crushed-ice type of cushion cut, I found a bunch of beautiful options that I thought would be fantastic choices:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/2.01-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-9723013?a_aid=dmnd1357
They are beautifully cut, eye-clean and all of them would be very bright and brilliant in real life.
I am looking for a 2 carat cushion cut diamond. I do like the one you recommended. Are there any other options for a 2 carat that would be a little lower in price, but still a beautiful eye clean diamond?
I also found these two:

Hmm, I think I still really like the first 2 carat option you sent…the one for $15,440. We are ready to buy whenever we pick the right stone.
All three 2ct options I sent over are excellent choices, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
We bought the ring!!
Thanks for your help with the center stone!
That’s great news! I’m glad you liked my recommendation so much.
