Hi Ira!
I purchased an 80-point IF G-color diamond with what looks to be an excellent cut from Blue Nile. I am waiting on a ship date as my fiance-to-be wanted to have chevron prongs instead of the round prongs with a basket… My question is, do you have any alternative diamonds you could suggest at JA and do you have any info about their ability to do a chevron mount? If they can do it sooner than Blue Nile (My ship date is Oct. 1) that would be great.
I don’t know about getting a bigger stone… the one I have is $3300, but since it has a fairly large width/height for its weight I’m not convinced that a heavier stone (say 1 ct) would look noticeably larger (on its own).
Stone:Â Blue Nile LD01928447
Thanks for writing!
I most definitely think it’s worth your while to make the switch. Here are a few options that I think are a much better value and why:
https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1326782.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 – eye clean is eye clean, so no need to go for a flawless stone. You can check the picture as well. Equally as large, and about $500 cheaper!
https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1327276.asp?a_aid=dmnd1357 – no pic yet, but I’ve never seen a VS1 in this size that wasn’t eye clean. This is just barely smaller, but about $900 cheaper!
As for the setting, I would be shocked if JA couldn’t do V-prongs for you (that’s how I’ve always heard them described). Give them a call and ask!
And btw, you can use the TAD0611 coupon to get 10% off the setting once you have it all figured out.
Thanks Ira! I went ahead and purchased the first diamond that you recommended… JA is doing it with V-prongs and it should arrive this Friday! I used your referral code 🙂 and appreciate your help. Once I get the JA ring I will still have time to cancel my Blue Nile order if the JA ring looks as good as I’m hoping it will.
Do you have any recommendations on cleaning/inspections? My girlfriend’s sister thinks that she will be concerned about that not having had the ring purchased at a local jeweler…
I think JA will clean the ring for you for free forever. but you can always go to a local jeweler and have them clean it on the spot. It’s a very easy and quick (and cheap) job.
Let me know what you think about the ring when it arrives!
